Hero Demonstrates Unwavering Courage Amid Uncertainty
Ryder showed continuous courage, impressive coping skills, and resilience in dealing with his recent lengthy hospitalization for congenital scoliosis and spinal thoracic dysplasia. Ryder exemplified true bravery while spending five days in the Pediatric General Medicine Unit following the application of a cranial halo with six pins. During this time, Ryder underwent continuous traction with daily weight increases without complaint. Ryder was a true fighter, and still a source of joy to everyone who encountered him. Throughout his experience, Ryder has remained joyful, polite and involved in his medical care. “He’s such a sweet kid and one of the most enjoyable patients I’ve ever had!” said his nurse. He was nominated by his Child Life Specialist Christian Hetzler at The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in OKC, Oklahoma. Kids Wish Network is honored to award Ryder as a Hero.
