Young Girl Strives to Recover After Health Trauma
Yasmin’s recovery has been a difficult journey, and she’s still working hard to progress. She was hospitalized after becoming seriously ill and had to be intubated and on extracorporeal life support for weeks. Yasmin struggled with cognitive defects and physical complications, needing inpatient rehab for physical, occupational, and speech therapies. She worked hard at relearning to move and use her body after having paralysis and temporarily being unable to speak and eat. Yasmin inspired hospital staff with her bravery, strong will, and determination. Before she was discharged, she began to walk, could do small jumps, and follow two-step commands. She was nominated by Aleida Guerra, her Child life specialist at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in Texas.“I know she and her family will be thrilled to receive this award,” said Guerra. Kids Wish Network is pleased to honor Yasmin as a Hero.
Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
