NORFOLK, Va.(May 2021): Genesis daydreams about days by the ocean, balmy breezes, and palm trees. Having her wish come true through Kids Wish Network will bring her sunny skies ahead. She received generously loaded gift cards for Airbnb and airfare, enabling Genesis and her mom to choose the postcard-perfect getaway of her dreams.“Oh my goodness!” said her mom Brandi when they found out. “Thank you so much, what a blessing!” Genesis may also bring another adored companion, Lily, a life-like baby doll that she was overjoyed to receive as a birthday gift that began her celebrated wish. Genesis struggles with sickle cell disease and has to live her life cautiously in an attempt to avoid full pain crisis and strokes. She’s already had health scares, and they’re a reminder to her mom that even everyday childhood fun can quickly spiral her health into trauma. Genesis tries to avoid getting sick, remembering all too well how past viruses sent her to the ER. It’s also difficult for Genesis feeling like the only one who can’t play as actively as the other kids she knows, she fatigues easily and gets shortness of breath. “Genesis’ dream destination can now be her reality, and we’re so thrilled we could make it happen for her,” said her Wish Coordinator Kim Kreiner.
