Makenzi Surprises Staff Throughout Lengthy Hospitalization
Makenzi’s fantastic attitude, motivating disposition was inspiring
Makenzi’s ongoing abdominal pain turned out to be intestinal malrotation. Between her complicated surgery and treatments, she remained hospitalized for over a month.
She took everything in stride and didn’t even complain after having a nasogastric tube inserted for nearly three weeks. Andrea Westmoreland, a Child Life Specialist at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, NC, nominated Makenzi for the Hero Wish. She was inspired by Makenzi’s fantastic attitude, motivating disposition, and outgoing demeanor even while enduring so much during her stay. Kids Wish Network is pleased to award Makenzie as a Hero.

Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
