Girl Loses Fingers from Explosion and Shines as a Hero
It was a defining accident that changed Aubry’s life forever. She was a curious toddler admiring her mom’s light-up vanity mirror when seconds later came a loud pop and scream. What her mom saw was horrifying and surreal. Her daughter’s fingers were dangling from her hand, and there was blood everywhere after one of the vanity’s light bulbs exploded in her hand. She was rushed to the hospital and then helicoptered to a children’s hospital. Aubry underwent surgery to reattach her fingers, but only part of her pinky was able to be saved. It was a huge adjustment; she was right-handed and had to relearn how to do even the most basic tasks. Aubry has amazed everyone with her continued determination to figure out how to do things for herself. She also recently received a new prosthetic hand that her family affectionately calls her princess robot hand. It gives her even more confidence in feeling safe doing some of her favorite activities like riding a bike, swinging, and scootering. Over the years, she has overcome so many challenges, and her family is so proud of all her accomplishments, knowing that even without her prosthetic hand, she’s still perfect. Aubry’s mom nominated her as a Hero, and Kids Wish Network is honored to name her as a Hero of the Month.

We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
