Gun Shot Victim’s Bravery Continues Amid Ongoing Fears
Pedro was the victim of gun violence at the age of 5. Over the years, he continued to need many medical procedures in his journey of healing. It was a lot to endure, and some of his biggest challenges were going through multiple revisions of his VP shunt, and getting an EVD sutured to his head for the drainage of excess fluids. When it had to be removed, Pedro asked many questions and was very scared and cried. Even though it was very hard for him, he remained still so medical staff could complete the removal. He also needed a vaccination, and although very fearful, he trusted staff and worked through his fear to complete procedures. He was nominated by his Child Life Specialist Misti Lindquist atKaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center in California. Kids Wish Network is pleased to award Pedro as a Hero of the Month.
