Young Hero Survives Being Trampled by a Horse

2020-10-John Louis Carden.jpg

John fell off a horse and was trampled, breaking several of his bones and causing serious abdominal issues. It was a painful road to recovery for this 6-year-old. He needed surgery and adapted to things like having a tube in his nose, not being able to eat and drink, and limited mobility. John worked hard in physical therapy and kept a positive attitude during his healing process. He was nominated by Sarah Kress, his Child Life Specialist at Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. She admired his maturity, strength, and bravery in facing all the challenges of his trauma. Kids Wish Network is happy to award John as a Hero of the Month.

Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
