Hero Faces Adversity with Positivity and a Smile
Aisling’s approach to everything is never negative. She always fights through everything put in front of her with her head held high even though she is only nine years old. Aisling was diagnosed with autism when she was two and had behavioral problems. The problems were so bad, that her parents had to bolt her mattress to the floor, and Aisling underwent numerous behavioral programs.
Her toe-walking caused her pain, walking, and balance issues since she began to walk. She’s been through physical therapy, taping, casting both her feet, and ankle foot orthoses. Aisling recently had two surgeries within six-weeks. She is still smiling and going strong. Even with an ulcer under her cast, she kept going.
“Aisling is a Hero in everyday life,” said her mom. “She is the most amazing, resilient kid you could ever meet. No matter what she has been through, she stays positive and finds the best in everything. She gets awards in school for her kindness and respect for others. She makes everyone around her smile. I admire her, and I am so proud to get to be her mom.
”Whenever she’s been hospitalized, she cooperatively worked with the Child Life department and anesthesia team to come up with an excellent coping plan. She was nominated by a child Life SpecialistAnneO’Gorman at Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts. Kids Wish Network is thrilled to award Aisling as a Hero of the Month.
