WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 2024): Sarah aspires to be an anthropologist, so her wish had to be a cultural adventure. Her dream coming true was revealed to her at Wahooz Family Fun Zone. It was so exciting finding out that Kids Wish Network was sending her to Washington D.C., with a wish for the history books! It was going to be fun and educational, also enabling Sarah to learn more about her Cherokee heritage, another interest that she loves exploring. The fun center was happy to celebrate Sarah and her amazing news with family passes to enjoy the center’s indoor and outdoor attractions, pizza, and bowling. It was a memorable way to begin her once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Her family’s flights to Washington D.C. were provided by Kids Wish Network, and it was an amazing feeling for Sarah to be on her way to experience all the historical places she heard so much about. 

There were so many memories created at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, with her family’s admission courtesy of the attraction. They also toured D.C.’s iconic historical monuments, some at night, even more magical by moonlight. 

The Capital Grille went above and beyond providing her family’s meals, and the chef also created an elevated experience preparing different appetizers for Sarah to sample. A manager of the restaurant provided her family with admission to the Spy Museum, and the Managing Partner surprised Sarah with a visit from the Honorable Andrea, an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She gifted Sarah many treasures including Challenge Coins, CIA insider gifts, a flag from a congressman that was flown over the United States Capital in her honor, among other special gifts. Associate Judge Andrea also arranged an insider forensics tour, police boat tour, and police helicopter ride. During the wish, they were invited to Founding Farmers and Distillers for breakfast, and Sarah’s family also enjoyed lunch at Carmine’s Italian Restaurant, and dinners at the Hard Rock Café and The Hamilton. The restaurants graciously provided the family’s meals. 

Other highlights were exploring the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and The Smithsonian’s  National Museum of the American Indian.

Sarah’s family had beautiful accommodations at the swanky Kimpton George Hotel that was also close to many of the area’s most precious landmarks. The hotel generously provided their stay.

Sarah has mitochondrial myopathy, impacting all of her organs, skeletal, and endocrine system. She had to have a loop recorder implanted for cardiac issues. Sarah also has multiple endocrine neoplasia Type 1, a rare disorder that causes tumors in the endocrine glands and parts of the small intestine and stomach. Her health is monitored by cardiologists, endocrinologists and neurologists, and she undergoes infusions, as well as physical and occupational therapies.
