Wish Kid Bravely Battles Leukemia, Earns His Stripes
James Discovers How to Train a Tiger
PATASKALA, Ohio (January 2021): Kids Wish Network kicked off James’ wish putting him face to face with Zoya and Hector, two resident tigers at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo. Virtually that is, and from the comfort of his chair in another city. James enjoyed every minute of his exclusive interactive field trip observing and learning more about his favorite animal. Even after discovering all the responsibilities of being a tiger trainer, he’s still set on making it his career when he grows up. James’ guide, Zoo Education Manager Christine Korhnak, shared another surprise. “Kids Wish Network is sending you and your family to Disney World!” James’ eyes widened as he threw himself back in his chair exclaiming, “Oh my gosh! Whoa! Oh my gosh!” Kids Wish Network sent his family generous gift cards for Disney and Hotels.com, giving them much-needed family time to experience all the magic that James has been dreaming of. He especially looks forward to going on safari and seeing more tigers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
After being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, James’s life was overtaken by a variety of cancer treatments. For 60 months he underwent monthly spinal taps, he was on oral chemo for more than 1,000 days, and his hospitalizations totaled more than a year during his intense three-and-a-half-year battle. Throughout his health struggles, James also showed the strength and courage of a tiger.
Wish Update: James and his family had an awesome Orlando getaway. Their colorful adventure began at LEGOLAND, enjoying a day full of rides and all the amazing life-size LEGO sculptures. The following days were filled with all the Disney magic that James dreamed of and more – especially exploring the wildlife at Animal Kingdom. It was “life changing to remind ourselves that James was in the hospital with a severe case of pneumonia this time last year,” said his dad Jordan. “We cannot thank you enough for making this all possible for James. It is amazing to see how excited he was to go to Disney.” While in Orlando, the family also ventured to Sea World and Kennedy Space Center.
“He’s been challenged with so much in his young life, and we’re thrilled we can bring him meaningful experiences and so much happiness,” said his Wish Coordinator Kim Kreiner. We also greatly appreciate the generosity and kindness of the Cleveland Metropark Zoo for making James’ wish extra memorable.
Many Thanks
Kids Wish Network could not have provided this wish to James without the help of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, and the many supporters who believe in making wishes come true for kids who need hope.
