Hero Demonstrates Courage and Determination for Wellness

Wyatt was admitted to the INTEGRIS Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit due to fluid filling his right lung and chest pain. Wyatt demonstrated an amazing level of calmness throughout the diagnosis of having a right pleural effusion, and throughout the discussion of a need to place a chest tube. Wyatt’s demeanor was steadfast throughout the initial placement and adjustment of the placement of his chest tube, and his bravery has been unparalleled throughout his hospitalization.

Despite a longer hospitalization than originally expected, Wyatt continued to display patience with his progress, find joy in the activities he could participate in, and continued to strive to do any task that would help him get better. One of these necessary tasks was getting a PICC line placed at bedside without sedation. This is a procedure that most adults tolerate unsedated, and Wyatt was willing and successful in accomplishing this large task.

Wyatt was able to remain perfectly still and allowed for our team to successfully place this necessary medical line to aide in his care. Wyatt is and continues to serve as a perfect example of how a child’s bravery can manifest into the strength needed to overcome difficult situations.“Wyatt is outgoing, kind, determined, logical and willing to do what it takes to get well,” said his ChildLife Specialist Laura Linville from INTEGRIS Children’s in Oklahoma City, OK. She nominated Wyatt, andKids Wish Network is happy to honor him as a Hero
