Student Embraces “Hug Machine”for Teacher Battling Cancer
Avery’s virtual kindergarten teacher was battling stage 4 cancer and mentioned a few times how much she missed hugging the children in her class. Avery helped build Mrs. Stromski a “hug machine” so she could safely hug anyone that came to visit her at her home.“She’s an amazing teacher, and deserved all the love and hugs she receives,” said Avery’s mom. When asked by his parents why he built it,he said, “Because my teacher missed hugs and I love her.”Avery loves to make people happy and do kind things for everyone,” said his parents and his teacher Keri Stromski who nominated him. Kids Wish Network is thrilled to honor Avery as a Hero. In addition to his gift package, we’re also sending him a big hug! Update: Sadly, Avery’s teacher passed away shortly after he was honored as a Hero. Avery’s thoughtful gift meant so much to her, and we’re happy she was able to be a part of his special recognition.
Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
