Rhylan was helping his dad chop wood to earn money for the gaming system he was saving up for. A happy afternoon turned into a horrifying accident. Rhylan was sitting on the front of the trailer when the attached truck drove off to haul the wood away. He was pulled under the trailer and suffered extensive injuries. Rhylan was rushed to the emergency room and received care for road rash and leg injury with exposed bone. Treatments were intense, undergoing wound debridement, multiple wash-out sessions in the operating room, and a wound vac. Depending on how he heals, he may also need skin graft surgeries. Through it all, he remained courteous to hospital staff and persevered through all the pain. Rhylan handled the experience with grace and humility. He was nominated by Kayleigh Stark, his Certified Child Life Specialist at CoxHealth Dee Ann WhiteWomen’s and Children’s Hospital in Springfield, MO.
