Kids Wish Network Puts Alabama Boy on the Right Track Meeting NASCAR Superstars

Christopher Kula has cerebral palsy, periventricular leukomalacia and a seizure disorder.  For Christopher, his happiness comes from watching NASCAR with his dad… it always puts a smile on his face. Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses, raced into action, giving Christopher his amazing NASCAR dream come true.

Kids Wish Network waved the green flag… it was time for Christopher’s revved up NASCAR wish! Kids Wish Network flew the family to North Carolina, putting him right in the action of his favorite sport. After traveling, they made a pit stop at the Hampton Inn and Suites Huntersville. They rested up for the next day’s big event.

Christopher’s family was refueled and ready for his exciting day. They arrived at Joe Gibbs Racing for FanFest, where everyone made Christopher feel like a racing champion. He was treated like a VIP and brought to a private room where he individually met famed racecar drivers Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Preece, and Erik Jones. Kyle Busch graciously gifted Christopher two lug nuts from his racecar. Denny Hamlin also kindly gave Christopher a racing hood pin taken straight off a racecar. They spent time with Christopher, took photos together, and autographed pictures. Christopher also received a hat signed by all the Joe Gibbs drivers. “He was actually able to personally meet the drivers,” said Christopher’s mom Janice. “That’s something you can never do at a regular race.” After meeting the racing superstars, Christopher and his family were also taken to see exclusive departments of Joe Gibbs Racing. Afterward, a memorable dinner was enjoyed at the McNinch House Restaurant.

Even though Christopher already felt like a champion crossing the finish line, the checkered flag hadn’t yet been waved. There was more racing action ahead. His family visited the NASCAR Hall of Fame, where he saw Jeff Gordon and met the racing legend, Roger Penske. He received autographs from both. That evening, the family had dinner at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and stayed at The Westin Charlotte.

“He loves NASCAR,” said his mom. “Anytime he sees anything NASCAR he’s all smiles.”

Christopher’s wish also took him to victory, bringing him so much happiness.

Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai said, “NASCAR is a special bond that Christopher and his dad share, and we’re so glad that he had this special experience with his family.”
