Hero Sustains Burns, Educates Others to Promote Safety
Chase had to endure multiple dressing changes after he was burned. He’s a strong kid with the best personality. Even though dressings were tough, he always showed strength and determination, and pushed himself with physical and occupational therapies. Chase tried his best to always do what was asked of him. “He is a hospital Hero because he never gave up and worked hard to heal and get better,” said his ChildLife Specialist Andrea Leon. “Chase was the star of the show! All the staff loved him and his charming personality.” He is a funny kid and was constantly making jokes. His kindness was always on full display as he made sure to let the staff know how much he appreciated them. He is the Connect 4champ of the hospital and even hosted a tournament. Chase was burned after attempting to do a social media challenge. He created his own video to warn people/kids of the dangers of trying to replicate challenges that involve fire. He also gave a presentation in front of his junior high class. “After a fire burned 31% of Chases body, he finds his strength in sharing his story,” said his mom DaVonna. “He wants to continue to educate his peers and hopes to prevent accidents like his from happening. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for triggering this amazing smile! Chase is absolutely on cloud 9 right now. My heart is so full and I am so very proud of my son.” He was nominated by his Child Life Specialist Andrea Leon at Valleywise Health in Phoenix, Arizona. Kids Wish Network is thrilled to honor Chase as a Hero of the Month.
