Hero Shot by Bullet, Perseveres Through Trauma

Janari was at a relative’s house when the unthinkable happened. Random gunshots were fired at the home, and he was struck by a bullet. He was rushed to the hospital and suffered from a broken leg and nerve injury. Janari was hospitalized for a week and underwent a variety of procedures that were trying both physically and mentally. He underwent the exploration and washing out of his wound, a donor nerve repair, skin grafting from his thigh to his wound site, wound vac placement and removal, and many other treatments that were difficult to endure. His healing journey continues in outpatient therapy, undergoing further difficult and painful treatments, and long-term physical therapy on his road to recovery. Janari showed so much strength and courage in coping with all the unknowns during his hospital stay and outpatient care. He remained positive, polite, and kind to medical staff even during his toughest moments. Kayla Harbin, his Child life Specialist at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, admired his bravery despite so much adversity. She nominated Janari, and Kids Wish Network is honored to name him as a special Hero

Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
