HAYWARD, Wis. (October 2019): It was a proud moment for Nolan Bearheart as he was sworn in as an honorary Sheriff of Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office. It was a big deal for this pint-sized 4-year-old who was barely big enough to fit into his official sheriff shirt (donated by Galls), complete with his embroidered name and department patches. Nolan has an extremely rare genetic condition called Lamin A/C muscular dystrophy, and he wants to be a police officer just like his mom and dad. It was all part of a special reveal for his wish through Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses.

During Nolan’s big celebration, he was surrounded by a sea of blue and stars. Police officers and sheriffs gathered to show their support for Nolan with high-fives, stickers, and a lot of cupcakes He even got to ride in a police car and in an official SWAT tactical vehicle,

“We ate our weight in cupcakes,” joked Nolan’s mom Courtney. While his parents thought Nolan’s wish was granted when he was deputized, the day’s festivities revealed there was more to come.

Kids Wish Network and the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department kept a big secret. Kids Wish Network was making another wish come true. Nolan’s eyes got wide as he was given a pair of Mickey Mouse ears. The whole family was going to Disney World!

“Kids Wish Network threw it out of the park. It was amazing!” said his mom. “I can’t even believe this. A thank you can’t even cover it.”

“We’re so happy that Nolan’s local law enforcement community joined forces and made finding out about his wish so special,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Tam Lai. “He had an outpouring of support, and he still has his magical Disney trip to look forward to.”

Anyone can become a wish granter and help provide memorable connections and opportunities. Medical professionals, family members, and others can also refer kids to receive hope-infusing wishes.
