Hero Strives to Solve Every Puzzle,‘I love puzzles!’
Emmaline was born with clubfeet. Her treatments began right away with casts, and then orthotic braces at only a week old. Despite her challenges, she was determined to walk at a very young age. She underwent her first surgery at four years old, and recently had another at seven. Throughout Emmaline’s frequent hospital care, she remained friendly, upbeat and compassionate to those around her. She also positively impacts others. Emmaline helped another patient who was scared of getting orthotics ,giving them support and comfort by explaining the process of something that she had also been through. Sh econtinues to be sweet and compassionate to the people she meets. She’s also brave and determined to overcome any challenge. When learning to use her wheelchair, she repeatedly rolled up and down the hospital’s hallways, and continued practicing her skills to get around with speed. Emmaline views her challenges as a puzzle, and takes them on with excitement. “I’m going to solve every puzzle,” she said. “I love puzzles!” She was nominated by her Child Life Specialist Anne O’Gorman at Shriners Hospital for Children–Springfield in Massachusetts. Kids Wish Network is so happy to award Emmaline as a Hero of the Month.
