Wish at Legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio Makes Heart Sing with Joy

SHEFFIELD, Alabama – Josephine has stars in her eyes, wanting to be a singer when she grows up. Kids Wish Network made her dream come true, sending her to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, where some of the biggest hits have been recorded by legendary artists including Cher, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Mick Jagger, George Michael, Rod Stewart, and many more.

If these walls could talk—or in this case, sing—they would echo all of these influential talents who made music history. And now it was Josephine’s turn to create her own beautiful music.

Josephine and her family headed to Alabama for her meaningful wish experience. On her big day, she also received the star treatment, being pampered at The Spa at the Shoals at the Renaissance Shoals Resort & Spa. She felt so special getting her hair styled and a pedicure and manicure. Josephine’s vibrant personality shined through, opting to have her nails painted in all different colors. Her morning of beauty was courtesy of the spa.

It felt like a dream arriving at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, but it was actually happening! Josephine would be creating music just like all the famed legends before her. She even had backup musicians. After watching them record their tracks, Josephine took group photos with everyone, recreating the iconic photo from Cher’s album that was recorded at the studio so many years ago.

When it was her turn to sing, her nerves quickly disappeared as she sang along with “By Our Love” playing through her headphones. After following the process, her favorite song by For King & Country became a meaningful keepsake. When Josephine heard the final production, she sweetly smiled and moved to the music. Even though her session was complete, her heart still sang with joy.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studio graciously provided her studio experience and also kindly gifted her family t-shirts as special mementos.

"This was an amazing experience, and one Josephine will remember for a lifetime," said her mom, Ceara.

During the wish, her family stayed at the Holiday Inn Express – Florence, with accommodations provided by the hotel. They also enjoyed dinners at Rosie’s Mexican Cantina, which also gifted her family t-shirts, and at Swampers Bar & Grille. Their meals were provided by the restaurants.

Before Josephine’s diagnosis, she was bruising and had an uncontrollable fever. She went to the hospital, and over the next few days, her health continued to decline. What was first thought to be a viral infection turned out to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer that occurs when the bone marrow produces too many white blood cells. She also had a fungal infection in her brain. The infection was treated, followed by multiple rounds of chemo and many platelet infusions. After being hospitalized for nearly 11 months, Josephine was finally cancer-free.

Every kid’s wish is worth the investment because every wish changes a life.
