Ryan was in a bike accident which required a craniotomy, leaving multiple staples on his head, along with abrasions on his arms and legs. “Ryan was amazingly optimistic when I met him, explaining to me about his bike accident, going to multiple hospitals, and needing physical therapy,” said his Child Life Specialist Misti Lindquist at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, CA. “He was happy he had a helmet on. He also talked about how he almost may not have survived if he wasn’t taken to the hospital so quickly after the accident. ”Ryan displayed optimism, strong coping, and adjustment to needing daily washings of his abrasions without hesitation .He was vocal, honest and pleasantly kind after experiencing a huge challenge of going through surgery and physical therapy. He was nominated by his Child Life Specialist who describes him as kind, positive, outgoing and optimistic. Kids Wish Network is honored to award Ryan as a Hero of the Month.
