Brave Hero Recovers from Gun Shot Wounds
David sustained gun shot wounds to both legs which resulted in a fracture in one leg, and damage to his femoral artery in the other. He underwent surgery, painful dressing changes, and physical therapy during his hospitalization. David was often without a caregiver at bedside and displayed a lot of bravery and strength when his uncle was unable to be present with him. David was kind and respectful to staff, even in the midst of his pain and moments of frustration.“David is brave and resilient and has a kind heart,” said his Child Life Specialist Jessica Johnson.
“David is a remarkable boy who is able to advocate for himself within an environment that even adults can find intimidating.” He also experienced the loss of his dad last year. David said being shot was the second worse thing that ever happened to him.
He was nominated by his Child Life Specialist Jessica Johnson at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. She was so inspired by his strong and resilient spirit after experiencing such a major trauma.
Kids Wish Network is pleased to honor David as a Hero of the Month
