Fifteen-year-old Nicole is a very bright young lady with a wonderful future ahead of her. She’s very helpful and caring with a beautiful smile and friendly personality. She is in band at her school and plays the flute. Nicole also enjoys her art classes and is in the honors program.
At nine months old, Nicole was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, which is a malignant tumor on the retina. This cancer rarely occurs in adults, and most often affects children ages 5 years old and under. Symptoms include eye pain, pupil constantly dilated, and red eyes. In Nicole’s case, her doctors removed her right eye in order to save her left. In addition, Nicole suffered through both chemotherapy and radiation treatments to ensure that her left eye would not be affected, though the vision in this eye is now impaired.
Nicole is truly hooked on her new laptop! She’s got the world at her fingertips and she knows it! Enjoy your wish, Nicole, you truly deserved it!

In 2007, Shawn’s doctors discovered that he had a neurocytoma, which is a tumor on the brain stem. In October of the same year, he endured a surgery to remove the tumor, but the surgeon could not remove all of it due to its location. In 2008, the tumor was found to have re-grown and Shawn was started on a course of radiation therapy to shrink it. He cannot stand for long, is very weak and is on a rigorous medication regimen for his condition.
Shawn loves to draw and write and just be creative, so he wished to have a laptop of his very own as a fantastic new way for him to express his unique creativity.One of the many things he’s been planning to work on with his new computer may even possibly be a book, one that he’s been talking about with his aunt since he was recovering from his last surgery. His wish has given him a new boost of confidence and a great surge of creativity; to say that Shawn is excited is understating it.

In 2001, Shawn was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the gastrointestinal tract. This disease has caused a tumor to grow in his small intestine for which he must take chemo pills every day to try and shrink it. In addition, Shawn has severely damaged lungs that cause him an extreme amount of pain. He was hospitalized in 2003 because of this disorder and he must endure daily breathing treatments with an inhaler.
Shawn wished only to have an Apple laptop, but he got so much more. In addition to the computer itself, Shawn’s Wish Coordinator sent him a special desk chair, an Epson all-in-one printer and a gift box filled with all sorts of goodies sent to the teen! Shawn was ecstatic!

Tyler had everything laid out for his future until a trip to the doctor led to something completely unexpected. In January, Tyler was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. This is a type of cancer that primarily affects the lymph system. He also has Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which is an arrhythmia caused by an abnormal electrical pathway in the heart. Tyler has endured both chemotherapy and radiation treatments in order to neutralize the cancer, but has lost all of his hair in the process. He still has a long way to go, but he’s taking it all in stride.
Tyler wished for a brand new desktop computer and got his wish! Since he got his computer, he has barely left it; he uses it every day. With his wish fulfilled, Tyler is simply grateful for the wonderful gifts and the computer from which he constantly exchanges instant messages with his closest friends. His wish experience was truly one that he will never forget.

Alma suffers from spina bifida. Because of this, she can only walk short distances with a walker or crutches and is confined to a wheelchair for longer distances. She also has hydrocephalus, for which doctors placed a shunt in her skull. In addition, she has a severe curvature of her spine called scoliosis and she has suffered through a surgery to insert rods into her spine.
Alma wished for the perfect quinceañera party and that’s exactly what she got. She was treated to a private makeover, a beautiful gown and a limo ride to her celebration. When she arrived, she was treated like the princess she is with tables loaded with yummy food, music and dancing. A professional photographer was even there to capture every minute! It was truly a party to remember.
