We grant wishes to kids between the ages of 3 and 18 who are battling life-threatening conditions – those that are determined by the child’s doctor to be progressive, degenerative, or malignant and are placing the child’s life in jeopardy. To be considered for a wish, the child must be able to communicate his or her wish and cannot have had a wish with another organization. Our Wish Kids can request just about anything for their wish, including trips to theme parks, meeting celebrities, travel, shopping sprees, computers or commodities.
Kids Wish Network’s original mission was to grant wishes only to children with life-threatening conditions. In doing so, it became apparent that there were so many children in circumstances that deserved to be recognized, but did not qualify for our original program. We then developed our “Hero of the Month” program to honor the children who did not have a life-threatening condition but who bravely faced some very tough and often tragic situations. These special wishes are called “Hero Wishes.”
Our Hero wishes are granted to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have overcome life-altering circumstances, often enduring a great deal of pain and suffering. The child must also have stayed in or been treated at one of our participating Hero pediatric care facilities.
