HERO of the Month Program Honors Children with Burn Injuries
Celebrates Brave Children Enduring Great Pain
Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month is a nationwide program that honors children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have faced and overcome difficult circumstances, often enduring a great deal of pain and suffering. Pediatric facilities tout the Hero program for its ability to positively impact the lives of the children, as well as their caregivers.
Burn injuries in children are one of the top injuries we see in the HERO of the Month nominations we receive. Children and teens suffering from a burn injury need special attention and treatment as they tackle their recovery. Although their young lives are changed forever, their courage and spirit serve as an inspiration to us all.
Childhood burn survivors not only face the physical aspects of their injury but the emotional repercussions as well. Fear of rejection or anxiety about social interaction with peers is a common concern for kids and teens during the recovery process and many are bullied. Kids Wish Network is taking a stand against bullying.
Hundreds of hospitals and facilities across the nation have participated in the Hero of the Month program. Many, including hospitals with pediatric burn units, are waiting to join to recognize the bravery of their patients. We are always welcoming new facilities to the program.
Our HEROs have touched our hearts; we know they will touch yours too. Meet some of our Heroes.
