Alyssa is an adopted child who was originally one of my foster children. She was a child of neglect and abuse. We have worked through many issues and then it was devastating to be diagnosed with this medical condition. Alyssa blossomed when she received this award. Her self-esteem increased and she felt “special” in a positive way. You will never know how much this meant to her- not only because of her illness but everything in her life before that. She wore her medal to school. She shows everyone who comes over!…you made a nightmarish situation bearable.

He was so honored to be the Hero of the Month. Braydon proudly wears his t-shirt and medal! He also had so much fun and pure joy shopping for things at Wal-Mart. He tells everyone he bought his iPod Shuffle, PS games and movies because he was so brave and listened to the nurses.

Dear Kids Wish Network,
Last year I received the Hero of the Month Award. After the past months that I had had I was just grateful to get out of the hospital. I was ready to start a new year. So the surprise of the Hero of the Month was like a celebration of my New Year. I remember my mom said I was going to a doctor’s appointment; understandably those are not my favorite outings. And much to my surprise when I walked into the Children’s Play Room there was a banner with my name on it. My whole family was there to celebrate with me. There were balloons, cake and a table full of gifts. I could never have imagined something so wonderful happening that day. I know there are many children who have had it worse than I did, so the thought of you nominating me is overwhelming. I have enjoyed the gifts very much. I can not speak for everyone, but for me the Kids Wish Network really was a blessing. I felt so loved and it put a smile on my face. All I can say is Thank You.
