Holiday, FL. (November 2016): Kids Wish Network, a children’s charity that grants wishes for kids with life threatening illnesses, granted a young soccer fan’s wish by partnering with Alex Morgan, an Olympic gold medalist, FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and forward for the NWSL Orlando Pride for a VIP experience at a recent Orlando Pride match.
Mackenzie Jacobson, diagnosed right after birth with a life threatening and rare heart condition, was on the field to watch the team’s pre-game warm up when she was first introduced to Morgan.
Mackenzie then watched from the President’s Box as the Pride played a hard game against Kansas City. After the game, players from both teams stopped to give Mackenzie their best wishes. Mackenzie was presented with the Pride’s captain Kaylyn Kyle’s arm band, a cherished memento from a very full and exciting day.
Alex spent some private time with Mackenzie talking about their lives. “It was great spending time with McKenzie and helping to make her wish special. She was a true inspiration to me and a competitor in life.”
Mackenzie was recently playing soccer herself when she suddenly collapsed. Another surgery gave Mackenzie new pulmonary valves, which will need to be replaced every ten years to ensure proper function. A tough young girl, her goal is to be just like her role model Alex Morgan when she grows up!
“It was an unreal experience,” explained Mackenzie’s mother Zoey. “Mackenzie could not believe that she was meeting her idol.”
“Alex Morgan and the entire Orlando Pride organization went out of their way to make this such a wonderful experience for our Wish Kid Mackenzie.” said Anna Lanzatella, executive director for Kids Wish Network. “Imagine the thrill Mackenzie experienced meeting someone she looks up to.”
Mackenzie and family stayed at Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa and were chauffeured around Orlando in their very own private Limo compliments of Park Avenue Limousines. In addition to meeting Morgan and watching her play Mackenzie was also treated to several activities including Orlando’s newest attraction, I-Drive 360, home of the 400-foot Coca-Cola Orlando Eye, Sea Life Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, and iFly. The family was also treated to a show at Blue Man Group Sharp Aquos Theatre and enjoyed wonderful dinners throughout the wish courtesy of The Melting Pot, Bahama Breeze and Emerils.
Alex Morgan and the entire Orlando Pride organization join a long list of celebrities who have supported Kids Wish Network in making come true the heartfelt wishes of children facing life-threatening illnesses.
