Adriel’s Orlando Magic Visit with Victor Oladipo

Wish Kid Adriel - Kids Wish Network

“The basketball and fireman enthusiast had the time of his life on his dream wish trip”

A prenatal diagnostic test confirmed that Adriel would be born with Down syndrome. Complications associated with Down syndrome became apparent after Adriel’s birth. These included a low platelet count that required a transfusion and a heart murmur that kept him in the hospital for an additional three weeks. Not long after his release, Adriel returned to the hospital because he was struggling to breathe. He was diagnosed with tracheomalacia, a condition that occurs in newborns when the cartilage in the windpipe, or trachea, has not developed properly. Currently, Adriel is enrolled in physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

At ten years old, Adriel’s caring personality shines through every time he asks how he can be helpful to the adults in his life. That same compassion can be seen in his future career choice; he dreams of becoming a fireman when he grows up. Adriel also collects basketball cards and enjoys cheering on his favorite team, the Orlando Magic.

Kids Wish Network arranged for Adriel to have a send off party with the Winter Garden Fire Rescue Department Station 22 before he left on his wish trip to attend an Orlando Magic basketball game. The Fire Rescue Department made Adriel an honorary junior firefighter for the day and took him on a private tour of their station. He tried on all of the gear, rode on a fire truck, blew the siren, and tested out a real fire hose. Adriel was thrilled with the attention and the experience of getting a behind the scenes look at his dream job. The crew capped off Adriel’s visit with a special lunch.

After the perfect bon voyage celebration, Adriel was treated to a limo escort to an Orlando Magic game. It made him feel like such a star. The best part of Adriel’s trip was when his favorite player Victor Oladipo stopped by to visit Adriel at the game and gifted him with a signed t-shirt. The fun continued with a day spent at the Shipwreck Island water park at the Westgate Resort and a trip to Madame Tussauds. Adriel’s favorite wax figure to pose with was Shaq. The basketball and fireman enthusiast had the time of his life on his dream wish trip.
