“Mari developed CP as the result of brain damage in the womb”
Born prematurely, Mari was only 24 weeks old when she was delivered along with her twin brother. Shortly after her birth, Mari had surgery to place a shunt in her brain to drain excess fluid. She was also immediately diagnosed with the motor disability cerebral palsy, a group of disorders that affect an individual’s ability to move and maintain balance as well as posture.
CP can be caused by damage to the developing brain, something that Mari experienced in the womb. It affects Mari’s ability to control her muscles, and as a result, she has issues with balance that affect her hips and require her to wear glasses. She also has trouble using one of her hands where her fingers are fused together.
Mari is a sweet and mellow extrovert who loves to cook and has a passion for photography. She is also a movie buff and wants to study film in college.
