“He radiates optimism and positivity”
Like many rough and tumble boys his age, 10-year-old Tennessee native, Tristan’s favorite activities include knee boarding, tubing, and riding four-wheelers. The easy-going child always has a new adventure on the horizon, but what makes Tristan different from most is that his latest feat wasn’t that of an athlete, but that of a patient at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
Tristan underwent a successful kidney transplant and has been radiating optimism ever since. He is not afraid to be honest with himself or others and does not let adverse situations govern his attitude or actions negatively. Tristan is what his nominating Child Life Specialist, Abbey Hornbeck, calls “an everyday hero,” whose maturity and good spirits make him everything “health care professionals dream of” working with. “Even when it would be understandable if he wanted to complain or not have a smile on his face,” Tristan defies the norm, “not harvesting bitterness or feeling sorry for himself,” she continued.
Behind every Hero is likely an incredible support system. In Tristan’s case, that would be his mom, Katrina. Much like Tristan, she is a happy and pleasant role model whose positivity could easily be credited as the inspiration for her son’s.
Tristan exemplifies all of the characteristics of a Hero and because of that, Kids Wish Network and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital would like to honor his commendable bravery and strength by recognizing him as a Hero of the Month. Congratulations, Tristan!
