STEPHENSVILLE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2015): It was the surprise of a lifetime when college freshman and cheerleader, Cheyenne Holt, heard her name being called over the loud speakers at Tarleton State University’s ‘Midnight Madness’ basketball practice on October 15. With approximately 5,000 students, alumni, and community members present, Cheyenne found out that Kids Wish Network is sending her on a dream vacation to New York City this December to see her favorite play, Les Misérables, on Broadway!
Cheyenne had no idea this kind of large-scale plan was in the works for her wish reveal. Shocked that she was being singled out during the entertainment portion of the evening, Cheyenne listened intently and screamed in delight along with the crowds of onlookers in the stands as the announcer read what the nonprofit Kids Wish Network has in store for Cheyenne.
Cheyenne was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer and underwent surgery to remove the two centimeter tumor, her thyroid, and some lymph nodes. She was placed on radioactive iodine treatments and a thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). A typical TSH level is 0.4 – 4.0.; Cheyenne’s level was 200. A follow-up scan showed that the cancer had spread to Cheyenne’s neck tissues and other lymph nodes. A second surgery was performed, and her TSH levels returned to normal.
Cheyenne is in the process of recording her first country music demo and loves being on stage. She both plays the guitar and sings. “Kids Wish Network learned that Cheyenne loved the Broadway musical Les Miserable, so what better way to make her dream come true than to send her to New York City to experience the city and see a live Broadway production,” said Anna Lanzatella, Executive Director for Kids Wish Network. “We strive to transform fantasy into reality by tapping into the wonder of possibility and delivering wishes that demonstrate that dreams really do come true,” Anna continued.
