Katie’s “Frozen” Adventure: Meeting Princesses Anna and Elsa

“Katie’s doctors didn’t think she would survive”

Four-year-old Katie is an outgoing and happy little girl who loves to talk and spend time with her family. You wouldn’t be able to tell from her bright personality that she only has one working kidney or that her legs never developed properly. Katie doesn’t let anything stand in her way, including her life-threatening illness.

Diagnosed while still in the womb, Katie’s doctors didn’t think she would survive. Katie suffers from caudal regression syndrome, a congenital disorder in which there is abnormal fetal development of the lower spine. Her spine stopped developing at the lowest vertebrae and prevents her legs from functioning. Her condition also caused only her right kidney to develop, and she suffers from a heart murmur.

Katie currently faces frequent urinary tract infections that serve as a constant reminder of her illness, needs regular CAT scans to monitor her development, and is wheelchair-bound. As Katie is just 4 years old, doctors aren’t sure of the complications she might face in the future.

Even with everything Katie faces, Kids Wish Network knows that she won’t let it stop her from having the time of her life on her wish trip. Katie knew exactly who she wanted to see; she proudly exclaimed “Anna and Elsa!” KWN can’t wait to make her magical dream to meet the princesses come true.
