“John’s cancer is rare and aggressive”
Last August, Wish Kid John came down with a simple cold and started suffering from chest pains. But after three weeks with no improvement, his “simple” cold needed another look. Doctors conducted an ultrasound on John’s chest and found a disturbing mass. On October 8th, the mass was revealed as cancerous.
John was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a rare, aggressive type of cancer that affects the white blood cells. Thankfully, it was caught early enough and John was able to start treatment immediately. John is scheduled for four rounds of chemotherapy, each lasting anywhere from 30 to 60 days. Every treatment begins with a painful spinal tap and bone marrow biopsy, and ends with the same two harrowing tests.
John has completed his first two rounds of the intense treatment, and his body seems to be handling the devastating treatment well. But even after John completes all four rounds, he will continue to need follow-ups until at least January 2018.
Despite John’s cancer diagnosis, he is a compassionate and humorous teen who loves to make videos of his journey and his family. He’s extremely creative and would love to be a director some day. Kids Wish Network is excited to get him started on this dream by granting his wish for professional video recording equipment. We can’t wait to see what movies John will produce!
