TAMPA, Fla. (May 12, 2015): As part of its mission to strengthen the communities where its employees live and work, Con-way Freight has recently teamed up with children’s charity Kids Wish Network to help deserving kids nationwide.
“Kids Wish Network is overwhelmed by the support from Con-way Freight,” says Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella. “Understanding Con-way’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its employees, we are thrilled to partner with Con-way to help achieve our mission.”
In March, Con-way Freight generously transported 15 pallets of new gifts and toys from New Jersey to Tampa, FL, to benefit the charity’s Holiday of Hope programs. The toys, donated by long-time Kids Wish Network Guardian Angel Kids Preferred, will be distributed to children suffering from illness, abuse, neglect, or homelessness.
“Giving back to the communities where we live and work is a core part of Con-way Freight’s culture,” said Mike McDonough, Tampa service center manager for Con-way Freight. “Our employees have a real passion for supporting local organizations like Kids Wish Network. It means a lot that we can deliver happiness and comfort to kids in need, and we look forward to continuing our support of this organization.”
Con-way Freight’s support continued in April when the company played a crucial role in Kids Wish Network’s Holiday of Hope On Tour Event in Louisville, KY. In partnership with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, the charity distributed over $615,000 in new toys and gifts to 3,000 local children.
The trucking company provided the pro-bono freight transportation services to bring the gifts, which took up two full trailers, from Tampa, FL, to Louisville. The 26 pallets were filled with board games, puzzles, stuffed animals, educational items, new clothes and hygiene products. Additionally, nearly two dozen of Con-way Freight’s employees in Louisville volunteered and supported the event.
“We are proud to be able to support the important mission of Kids Wish Network and contribute in a small way to bringing some happiness to truly deserving children,” said Suzanne Bloom about the event. Bloom chairs the company’s “voices and values” community outreach team in Louisville and participated in the event.
“Con-way Freight played a very important role in our On Tour Event in Louisville,” added Lanzatella. “Kids Wish Network is extremely grateful for the company’s continued dedication to helping kids in their local communities. We’re excited to invite Con-way’s Tampa employees to assist with our local Gift Bank program over the 2015 holiday season and offer other opportunities for its employees nationwide to support our programs.”
