AMARILLO, Texas (April 9, 2015): Together with BSA Health System, children’s charity Kids Wish Network is excited to honor 3-year-old Xakkary Taylor as a Hero of the Month. Xakkary was nominated for the award for his bravery during a lengthy stay at the Amarillo facility.
“Xakkary is very brave and tough,” said his nominating Child Life Specialist. “Even though it was hard for him, he just kept hanging in there until it was time for him to go home.”
Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program recognizes children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have faced and overcome difficult circumstances, often enduring a great deal of pain and suffering. While they may not suffer from a life-threatening illness, these Heroes have dealt with life-altering situations, demonstrating extreme bravery and courage.
Xakkary was admitted to BSA Health System hospital for a severe and rare case of pneumonia that required multiple procedures. Xakkary courageously suffered through a central tube, chest tubes, a feeding tube, catheter, breathing treatments, antibiotics, and lots of pain. The 3-year-old spent over 18 days at the facility, demonstrating bravery many, many times.
“After spending what seemed like forever in the hospital, Xakkary was who kept me strong and smiling,” said his mom Ashley Bannerman. “Now he’s a healthy, happy little boy once more, but I won’t forget the day I almost lost him to a severe case of pneumonia. Thank you, thank you so much for this award; it made his day!”
