BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2015): Children’s charity Kids Wish Network, along with Kosair Children’s Hospital, is excited to honor Bardstown 14-year-old Haley Jordan as a 2015 Hero of the Month. Haley was nominated for her continued strength in fighting to recover from an automobile accident.
Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program recognizes children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have faced and overcome difficult circumstances, often enduring a great deal of pain and suffering. While they may not suffer from a life-threatening illness, these Heroes have dealt with life-altering situations, demonstrating extreme bravery and courage.
Haley’s struggle began the day before Thanksgiving 2014, when she was involved in a car accident. She suffers serious injuries and needed immediate medical treatment. Haley was admitted to Kosair Children’s Hospital where she endured the holidays in a hospital.
The brave teen suffered through a lot of pain and multiple procedures. The 14-year-old needed surgery for a blood clot in her brain, one to repair a hole in her intestines, and one to fix broken vertebrae in her back. Part of her intestine had to be removed and metal rods where inserted during her back surgery. Haley also needed a feeding tube and multiple drainage tubes.
Described as a funny, sweet and shy young girl, Haley won the hearts of everyone at Kosair Children’s Hospital. Haley continued to demonstrate bravery during her recovery process and had been fighting to walk more and more at the time of her nomination. Her courageous behavior exemplifies a Kids Wish Network Hero of the Month.
“Haley and I feel like it’s a great honor for her to receive the Hero of the Month award,” said her father Kevin Jordan. “We are very blessed and grateful for this recognition.”
Haley has recently returned to school and was so inspired by the staff at Kosair Children’s Hospital that she plans to start volunteering at the hospital this summer.
