BEAVER DAM, Wis. (Nov. 18, 2014): Beaver Dam citizen Jim Mai hosted the annual Melissa Mai Memorial Golf Scramble benefitting Kids Wish Network last month at Beaver Dam Country Club. Every year the event is held in memory of Mai’s daughter Melissa, who received a wish from the children’s charity in 2004. Mai is also a member of the Kids Wish Network Board of Directors.
“Kids Wish Network granted my daughter Melissa’s wish before she passed away, and I could see how much it meant to her,” recalls Mai. “She really loved being with her family and getting the opportunity to have fun again. There aren’t enough words to express how grateful I am that she was able to have that experience and I want to help give other kids that same opportunity.”
“I’ve been in a lot of golf tournaments over the years, and they raise a lot of money,” said Mai. “I thought this could be the perfect way to give back to Kids Wish Network. The event has become very popular and continues to grow.”
This year’s scramble featured live music from local band “Under of the Gun”, a 50/50 raffle, hole prizes, silent auction, raffle prizes and a dinner. To date, the fundraiser has netted over $28,000 to benefit Kids Wish Network.
“This year’s event went great,” adds Mai. “A lot of local businesses and community members helped out with sponsorships so I thank them, especially the staff at the Beaver Dam Country Club. And most of all, I’d like to thank my wife Julie for supporting in this event; I couldn’t have done it without her.”
Next year’s annual event will be hosted on Saturday, August 15, 2015.
Mai would like to thank the many businesses and people who helped sponsor and support the event: Tony Arvold’s Golf Shop, Reed Chrysler, Bob and Shirley Mai, New Frontier Land Survey, JB Flooring, Wilt and Lynn Zick, Chiropractic USA, Beaver Plumbing, Nan and Chris Williams, Horicon State Bank, Community Bank and Trust, Deb Muenchow and Jeff R., Sandy Mai, Verizon Wireless, Beaver Gunite, Fly Away Carpet Care, Kevin and Heather Jordan, Saputo, Brenda and Lefty Fabish, Harry Kaul, John McCue, Jay Vanden Boogart, Shirley Winter, Steve Ploch of TaylorMade, Lake Arrowhead Campground, Pine Mountain, Wal-Mart, Melissa Osterhoff, Ott Schewietzer Distributing, River City Distributing, Country Springs Hotel and Water Park, Totally Wired, Cherly Stalowski, Sabrina Hensler, Aspire Bodywork, Johnny’s Lounge, Nancy’s Notions, Dan and Becky Wheeler, Al and Shirley Winter’s Sears Store, Jim Thompson, Pat Machkovech and Andy Kirchoff, Beaver Dam Country Club, Old Hickory Golf Club, Two Oaks North Golf Club, White Lake Country Club, Rock River Hills Golf C lub, Timberstone Golf Club, Rock River Country Club, Fox Lake Golf Club, Coyote Liquor Store, Hogz and Honeez, Stooges, The Hill, Perfect Mix Sports Bar, Jenny Klawitter, Tammy Nickel, Dave Elgersma and the boys soccer team, Joe Peters, Benvenuto’s Italian Grill, Spring Garden Restaurant, Walkers, Cocktails, Buckhorn Steak House, Char Haus, Subway in Watertown, and McDonald’s Park Ave.
