“The smiles Colton had were just amazing”
Right before Wish Kid Colton turned 4 years old, he fell gravely ill. At the hospital, Colton was diagnosed with hemolytic uremic syndrome, a condition that results from abnormal premature destruction of red blood cells which starts to clog the filtering system in the kidneys.
Colton soon began suffering from seizures as the symptoms spread to his brain. Doctors placed him in a medically-induced coma, where he remained for nine weeks. During the coma, Colton’s large intestine became necrotic and he required an ileostomy surgery as well as other procedures. Colton suffered a stroke when doctors first attempted to bring him out of his coma and then developed posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) in his brain.
Colton remained in the ICU for a total of 13 weeks. When doctors again tried to take him out of his medically-induced coma, Colton remained in his coma for another long 10 days. Doctors weren’t sure if he would ever wake up, and if he did, he could be severely disabled. Once he surfaced, Colton spent five weeks at a rehabilitation facility relearning how to walk and gaining strength back on his left side.
Colton battled through months of physical and occupational therapies, and was doing well until recently. Colton fell into Stage IV renal failure and is awaiting a kidney transplant. He carries a dialysis machine with him everywhere.
But thankfully, that extra baggage didn’t hinder the fun on his recent wish trip. KWN sent Colton and his family to Disneyland in California so his dream of meeting the “Cars” characters could come true.
Colton and his family enjoyed a magical wish trip with luxury accommodations, personalized dinner experiences, and lots of Disney characters.
“Colton had such a wonderful time,” recalls his mom Sarah. “The smiles Colton had were just amazing. Thank you Kids Wish Network from the bottom of our hearts.”

Colton is still facing hardships from his life-threatening illness. He undergoes dialysis treatment every single day but will hopefully be put on the kidney transplant list this month.
