“Adam is excited to start college and find a cure for cancer”
In the summer of 2013, Adam and his family noticed a large lump on his neck. The family became concerned when it started growing, and the doctor performed a biopsy. The diagnosis was devastating; Adam’s lump was nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, i.e. cancer. The teen immediately started treatment.
The chemotherapy and radiation treatments were targeted to Adam’s chest and neck in an attempt to stop the cancer from spreading. His uncommon form of Hodgkin lymphoma generally presents without symptoms and can be hard to detect. The treatments took a toll on Adam because of its targeting, frequently forcing him to use a mask to have his medication delivered.
He continued with the entire round of treatment, and in early 2014, his scans came back clear. Adam is currently in remission from his cancer but will undergo scans every few months to check his condition. While Adam is in the clear right now, there’s no guarantee that the cancer won’t return.
Adam is excited to study science technology in college to help find a cure for cancer. He also spends his spare time doing anything with computers. Adam and his dad even built their own custom computer.
Adam’s wish was for a graphics card to install 3D capabilities to his hand-built computer. Once the card was deliver, we also treated Adam and his family to a celebration dinner at Mama Mia’s Ristorante Italia. Then it was back home so Adam could start using his wish! We can wait to see what he does in the future!
