Meet Minion Kristaliah

“Everyone treated Kristaliah like a princess”

Kristaliah is an outgoing little girl who loves Disney’s “Despicable Me” and also suffers from an extremely rare life-threatening condition that many have never heard of: recombinant 8 syndrome. This uncommon and complex chromosomal disorder involves heart and urinary tract abnormalities, moderate to severe developmental delays, and a distinctive facial appearance.

Diagnosed at birth, Kristaliah had her first heart surgery when she was only 2 years old. The surgery replaced a heart valve and kept her in the hospital for three months. Complications from the surgery forced doctors to place a shunt and catheter around her heart to drain excess fluid. She also needed to take blood-thinning medications which caused a loss of hearing in her left ear and the loss of sight in her left eye.

Her syndrome causes many consistent health complications, and Kristaliah will need another heart surgery in the next few years.

Despite her daily struggles, Kristaliah finds happiness wherever she goes. The social child loves to meet new people and was extremely excited to talk to all her new friends on her wish to the California theme parks. Kids Wish Network sent Kristaliah and her family on an all-expense paid wish trip to visit Disneyland, Universal Studios and SeaWorld in sunny California.

The family stayed at luxury accommodations, dined at fantastic local restaurants and explored all the magic of the parks. Kristaliah’s favorite part was, of course, getting to meet some real minions from “Despicable Me.”

“Kristaliah was so happy the entire trip,” recalls her mom Krystal. “Everywhere we went, people treated Kristaliah like a princess. Thank you so much for giving us a chance to spend time together as a family.”

On behalf of Kristaliah and her family, Kids Wish Network would like to thank all the amazing sponsors that helped grant her wish: Fullerton Marriott at California State University, the “Fullerton Fairy”, Compassion Partners Programs, Universal Studios, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, California Pizza Kitchen, SeaWorld San Diego, Tortilla Jo’s, and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.
