Justin’s Tyrannosaural Trip

“This was a trip Justin will always remember”

Justin McCain

In early 2010, Justin’s infant baby brother was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. This news prompted the entire family to get tested, and Justin tested positive. Cystic fibrosis is characterized by the production of abnormal mucus that is excessively thick and sticky and can lead to blockages in the lungs and airways.

Treating this complex disease requires therapies that address problems in different parts of the body, especially the lungs and digestive system. Justin takes 20 pills a day that includes a combination of medication, vitamins and other supplements. He also participates in daily chest therapies to help loosen the thick mucus buildup and uses an inhaler twice per day. As a preventative measure, Justin is homeschooled and the family takes major precautions to prevent him from falling ill.

Being cautious has paid off for Justin; he has yet to be hospitalized for his condition, but is continuously at risk for serious complications from the incurable disease. Justin works hard at all his therapies so he can participate in his favorite activities, namely cross-country running and pretending to be a Tyrannosaurs Rex. Family says he has mastered the art of impersonating a T-Rex, including eating his food as the gigantic dinosaur would.

Justin finally got to show off his T-Rex skills on his magical wish trip to Disney World and Universal Studios. Justin experienced all the dinosaur-themed areas in Universal and had a very special dinner at T-Rex Café. Getting to see all the dinosaurs was definitely his favorite part.

“Thank you for making Justin’s wish come true,” adds his mom Jennifer. “We really appreciate all the details you put into his wish. It was a trip he will always remember.”

A huge thanks goes out to all of Justin’s Guardian Angel sponsors who helped make this magical trip happen:
