The recipients of the Hero of the Month program, like Analeyah and John, have faced and overcome difficult and often tragic circumstances with courage and spirits that serve as an inspiration to us all. Paying tribute to these children’s ability to overcome adversity makes a real and positive difference in their recovery.
The staff at White Memorial hosts a party for each nominee in its playroom, furnished with a HERO cake and drinks. The distinguished kids are encouraged to invite family and friends to share in the celebration and to learn more about the hero’s hospital stay. Each recipient is presented with a Kids Wish Network certificate, HERO shirt and wristband, Guardian Angel coin and gift card.
“As Child Life Specialists, our goal with the program is to share the importance of praising the great job the nominee did in being involved in his health care plan,” says Child Life Specialist Tina Aguliera.White Memorial Medical Center honored 6 heroes in 2013. The center is a 353-bed not-for-profit, faith-based, teaching hospital, which provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient, emergency and diagnostic services to communities in and near downtown Los Angeles.
