“When she’s recovering from this surgery, we can remind her of all the fun things she did to help ease her mind.”
Born three months premature with holes in her brain, little Dakota has been a fighter since day one. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 12 months of age, her illness is a non-progressing motor condition that has stunted much of her development and left her with permanent disabilities. Dakota is confined to wheelchair and faces major back surgery in February of 2014. This surgery will disconnect troublesome nerves in her back that cause a painful tightness in her legs.
Despite the impending surgery and a life-threatening illness, Dakota doesn’t let these troubles get her down. The sweet and creative 5-year-old loves SpongeBob Square Pants, the color pink and telling stories featuring Disney princesses. Thanks to Kids Wish Network, Dakota now has a real story to tell about her wish to the happiest place on Earth, Disney World.
Dakota’s all-expense paid wish was her first place ride. She visited the parks, enjoyed being treated like a princess at local restaurants and got to meet some awesome Disney characters. Dakota loved meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Tinkerbell and watching the performance at Cinderella’s Castle.
“Everything was so wonderful,” says Dakota’s mom Stephanie. “Thank you so much for granting a wish Dakota will never forget. When she’s recovering from this surgery, we can remind her of all the fun things she did to help ease her mind.”
Send Dakota a message of hope for her upcoming surgery, and check back for updates on this little fighter’s recovery.
