Celebrating World Moyamoya Day at Disney: Jalin’s Wish

“Jalin had the time of his life”

When you think about someone who has suffered a stroke, Jalin’s face probably wouldn’t pop into your mind. That’s because Jalin is an 8-year-old boy who suffers from a rare and dangerous blood condition called Moyamoya. The uncommon disorder causes the ring of blood vessels at the base of the brain to progressively narrow, blocking blood flow to the brain.

Almost two years ago, Jalin started experiencing unexplainable high fevers, headaches and dizzy spells. When doctors noted that his blood pressure was also high, they ordered an MRI. Test results came back with a diagnosis of Moyamoya. Unfortunately, Jalin got much worse before he got better. He suffered from mini-strokes, temporary paralysis, severe migraines and seizures before finally undergoing an 8-hour brain surgery to expand the narrow passageway.

Thankfully, Jalin was mostly recovered during his wish trip to Disney World. Jalin enjoyed his first plane ride as Kids Wish Network sent him and his family on an all-expense paid wish trip to Orlando, Florida. The family also was able to celebrate World Moyamoya Day during his trip.

“Jalin had the time of his life,” recalls mom Lynell. “All he talks about is how much fun he had on the rides. The experience is something none of us with ever forget. I can’t thank Kids Wish Network enough.”

Jalin is currently doing well but still goes for regular checkups to monitor the condition of his Moyamoya.
