International children’s charity Kids Wish Network sent Gary girl Kaydence Hammers, who is suffering from two types of diabetes on an all expenses paid trip to fulfill her fondest wish. Kids Wish Network is an international charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations.
“Granting a wish is a wonderful way to help give these brave children something they truly want,” said Kids Wish Network Executive Director Anna Lanzatella. “It will, in turn, give them hope for a happier, healthier future.”
Kaydence suffers from both diabetes insipidus and type 1 diabetes; diabetes insipidus is a rare chronic metabolic disorder that causes intense thirst and excessive urination, while type 1 diabetes occurs when the body no longer produces insulin. It is extremely rare to have both conditions at once.
Kaydence also suffers from severe allergies and has been diagnosed with anaphylaxis, a severe bodily allergic reaction that requires instant medical attention, as well as asthma. In 2008, Kaydence went into seizures because of something called water intoxication. She was given CPR and did not wake up until 18 hours later.
Kaydence has since suffered two more bouts of seizures and was hospitalized all over again. She was also diagnosed with pediatric migraines and her doctors are now looking into her lack of growth to see if Kaydence may also suffer from a growth hormone deficiency. Her conditions are closely monitored and Kaydence must endure daily insulin injections, an insulin pump and various other medications and treatments.
With all of the pain of treatments and keeping her conditions under control, Kaydence’s mother, Amanda Hammers, thought her daughter could use the joy of having her fondest wish granted, so she contacted Kids Wish Network.
During an all-expenses-paid vacation to Florida, Kaydence and her mother enjoyed visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. They were also treated to dinners every evening and top-notch accommodations at the famous Royal Plaza Hotel.
At the parks, Kaydence was treated like a princess as she met her favorite Disney characters and princesses, rode rides, and witnessed a number of amazing shows. Kaydence was even invited up onstage to dance at the Festival of the Lion King show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
“It was wonderful,” said Amanda of her daughter’s wish. “It was a nice getaway and Kaydence loved it. She had a blast. Thank you so much!”
Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for making Kaydence’s all expenses paid trip and wish so spectacular: Compassion Partners, Royal Plaza Hotel, OSI Restaurant Partners, The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated, Pirate’s Dinner Adventure Theater, Wonderworks, and Dollar Rent A Car.
