Iris is a friendly 11-year-old who loves the color pink and dreams of meeting her favorite pop star, Justin Bieber. Her favorite subject in school is math, and she enjoys shopping and attending sleepovers with her many friends.
As an infant, Iris suffered from chronic respiratory problems and was hospitalized over 22 times by the time she turned two. In recent years, Iris began complaining of severe headaches and was taken to the doctor. An MRI revealed that she suffered from Chiari malformation, a condition in which a portion of brain tissue protrudes into the spinal column, causing pressure and affecting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid. Iris was immediately taken to a neurosurgeon and given a decompression surgery in which they removed her first cervical vertebra to help relieve the pressure in her spine. She was in the hospital for four days and was out of school for six weeks. Unfortunately, Iris’s headaches are now worse and she will visit a neurologist at the end of the year; her doctors fear she may be suffering from small seizures in the brain.
For her wish, Iris wants to go on a cruise with her family. Make sure to pack your sunglasses, Iris, because you’re going cruising in the tropics!
