Kids Wish Network Grants Cancer-Stricken Teen from China’s Wish for a MacBook Pro

HOUSTON, Texas – International children’s charity Kids Wish Network made teenager Quan Yang’s fondest dream for a MacBook computer come true. Kids Wish Network is an international charitable organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children having experienced life-altering situations.

Quan’s story began in China two years ago, when he woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain. He was rushed to the hospital, where a CT scan revealed that he had Hodgkin’s lymphoma – a cancer of the lymphatic system.

After two years of treatment in Beijing, Quan’s condition was worsening and, with no solution or other options available, Quan and his parents relocated to the United States in hope of better treatment.

Once in the States, Quan began a new treatment regimen and learned about many different resources available to kids and teens dealing with life-changing circumstances, including international children’s charity Kids Wish Network. He applied to the organization’s wish granting program and was asked to choose what he wanted for his wish; Quan asked for a MacBook Pro, which will help him tremendously when he starts college in a year or two.

“When I filled out my application for the MacBook, I didn’t really count on it because I thought nobody would do such a huge thing,” says Quan. “But when Rhonda [my Kids Wish Network Wish Coordinator] called me and said that my wish had been approved, I just couldn’t stop saying thank you. My gratitude now is beyond words, I wish I could help others in the future like you guys do. Thank you, thank you so much!”

In addition to his MacBook, Quan was also surprised with a gift box that showed up on his doorstep a few weeks before the computer did. Inside were video games, movie tickets, clothes, accessories, board games and much more all chosen especially with him in mind.

“The gift box was AWESOME!” exclaimed Quan. “The box arrived earlier than the MacBook. At first I thought, ‘Why do they need such a big package for a laptop?’ Then, after I opened it, the surprise was just written on my face…The feeling I have most is gratitude to have given me such a great joy. All the work you guys have achieved for me and for all those kids is so admirable!”
