Lauren’s Wish went Swimmingly!

Name: Lauren
Age: 18
State: CA

In June of last year, Lauren’s leg began hurting so she went to the doctor, who noticed that her legs were two different sizes. An MRI revealed that Lauren had 10-inch growth along her left femur. After undergoing a biopsy surgery, it was discovered that the growth was Ewing sarcoma – a fast-growing, cancerous bone tumor. A month after her diagnosis, Lauren was started on 17 two-week rounds of chemotherapy at the same time as 31 sessions of radiation treatment. This double round of treatments has taken quite a toll on Lauren, but she has remained upbeat despite the pain and suffering she endures through the treatments.

For her wish, Lauren was able to watch the swimming trials for the 2012 Summer Olympics in Nebraska. She spent four days watching every single trial heat and event and she couldn’t have been happier. Lauren also enjoyed the special treatment she received from the employees at the restaurants she visited at night for dinner, which had been arranged for by her Wish Coordinator.

“It was a lot more than I expected,” said Lauren of her wish. “Everyone was so nice. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you.”
