Kalie is a loving young girl who enjoys board games, volleyball, and her Nintendo Wii. At only 11 years old, her most admired hobbies include dancing, painting, and singing. Her favorite song is “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry and her best subject in school is spelling. Kalie is described by her family as having a beautiful and strong personality, and is intent on keeping a smile on her mother’s face.
At the age of ten Kalie began to encounter several eye problems, including loss of vision. Her doctors ran blood work tests and performed MRIs, finding evidence of glaucoma and legions on her brain and spine. Finally, after a brain biopsy, Kalie was diagnosed with Central Nervous System (CNS) Vasculitis. CNS Vasculitis is a disease in which the brain, spine and the areas around them become inflamed. Kalie now struggles with her balance, which makes it difficult to walk long distances. She is on a strict regimen of eight different medications and is frequently enduring doctor visits and blood testing.
