Emma is 3-years-old and she has retinoblastoma. As a result, her right eye has been removed and replaced with a prosthetic; she has very limited vision in her left eye. Emma’s wish is to visit Disney World, so I’m reaching out to her local community for funding. The Lions Club made a very generous donation and shortly thereafter I received a wonderful email from a member of the Lions Club. I’d like to share it with you:
I am a member of the Lebanon’s Lions in Lebanon IL. When your email was forwarded to me and I saw Emma’s story, I made sure we donated money to her wish. I am a 54 year old woman who has led a great healthy life thanks to an aunt who noticed that my right eye didn’t look right when I was 13-months-old. Because of that, my retinoblastoma was found very early. My parents took me to Pittsburgh where they removed my right eye and part of my optic nerve. They didn’t know much in those days and told my mother I would be gone in 3 years. Well…ummm…that didn’t happen! LOL I am alive and kicking. Thankfully, neither my children nor grandchildren have it.
I pray that Emma makes a full recovery and lives a happy, long life. Organizations like yours that make life have some fun in it are very important. Thanks.
I don’t know about you, but I was sure touched by this lovely email and would like to thank Dawna and the Lions Club of Lebanon again for their generous donation to grant Emma’s wish.
