By the time he was one-year-old, little Carson was already found to be suffering from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, which is when stomach contents leak backwards into the esophagus, and Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome, which is an immune and gastrointestinal response to food proteins that can cause symptoms like food allergies. In 2008, Carson was also diagnosed as autistic. Then, just last summer, Carson’s teacher noticed that he was becoming fatigued very quickly and having difficulties with speech and balance; she urged his parents to have him tested. An MRI revealed that Carson’s brain had herniated into his spine through a condition called Chiari Malformation, which is causing these difficulties. Since his diagnosis, Carson has endured a brain decompression surgery and his doctors now believe he is suffering small seizures deep in his brain because of this condition.
